CLIP and CFL multimodal launched a new intermodal connection between Bettembourg-Dudelange in Luxembourg and Poznan-Swarzedz in Poland.

As announced during the Transport Logistic fair in June 2019, CLIP and CFL multimodal successfully completed their partnership project and expand their respective service offering with the launch of a rail motorway train between Bettembourg-Dudelange and Poznan-Swarzedz.

The first train left the Intermodal Terminal of Bettembourg-Dudelange on January 28th 2020. It will run with 4 roundtrips per week and transports containers, craneable as well as non-craneable semi-trailers. The train efficiently connects Poland to Luxembourg and the Benelux area as well as France and Spain, using the existing intermodal connections from Bettembourg-Dudelange to Lyon, Le Boulou and Barcelona. Mr Fraenz Benoy, managing director of CFL multimodal: “The expansion of our intermodal service offering to Central Europe will give us the opportunity to address the craneable and noncraneable trailers market. This new train can transport up to 15 000 semi-trailers per year. This is equivalent to 20 000t of CO2 savings, which clearly reflects our endeavour to provide both sustainable and reliable services.”

Mrs Agnieszka Hips, CEO Clip Group S.A.: “CLIP Intermodal as an expert in Poland in intermodal services can promote this solution and provide a unique opportunity to all polish road hauliers to go to intermodal. With further connections from Luxembourg to Spain we have the possibility to create one of the longest rail connection in Europe with the shortest transit time. The train will start with a frequency of 4 times per week, but we want to increase it to 6 times per week in short future. Transit time from CLIP to Bettembourg will be around 23 hours.” The rail traction is provided by CFL cargo, in cooperation with Ecco Rail in Poland. This train covers a distance of more than 1.000 km and has a transport capacity of 38 loading units.

Bettembourg-Kiel launched for better connection with Scandinavia

On January 21th 2020, LKW WALTER, Stena Line, Port of Kiel and CFL multimodal announced the launch of a new rail connection between the Intermodal Terminal Bettembourg-Dudelange and the Terminal Schwedenkai in the Port of Kiel.

LKW WALTER, Stena Line, Port of Kiel and CFL multimodal successfully concluded a partnership agreement to expand their respective service offering. This new intermodal connection is initiated at the Intermodal terminal of Bettembourg-Dudelange today and will be running with 3 roundtrips per week for cranable trailers and containers.

The partners are convinced that this regular intermodal service, connecting the Luxembourg area as well as existing trains (Lyon, Le Boulou and Barcelona) to the Port of Kiel and its ferry lines to Göteborg will boost the development of global European intermodal solutions.

This new train will foster modal shift, allowing the transfer from road to rail of up to 10.000 trucks and CO2 savings of about 11.000t per year.
